Briggy Benz driven by passion

SINCE his formal introduction to the dancehall music in 1999, Briggy Benz is intent on making a name for himself.

Briggy Benz, whose real name is Raymond Grant, was brought to the fore when he recorded and collaborated with mentor and uncle, Spragga Benz, on a single titled Gi Wi Dem. The track — on Ward 21's When the Smoke Clear riddim — also had his Red Square stable mates.

Since recording his musical initiation, he subsequently recorded for producers such as Renaissance Disco, Don Corleon, Snow Cone and most recently Delly Ranx and Kruger.

After several years break due to migration to the United States, he has done some tracks which he feels will do well.

His latest efforts include My Life — which was produced by Riff Raff on the Audacity riddim — which the artiste describes as one of his favourites. He has also done Never Lame on Delly Ranx's Belated Earth Strong riddim; and, Garrison 'voiced' for Kruger.

He is currently in Jamaica shooting the video for Garrison.

Briggy Benz said up-and-coming artistes have a hard time getting aired. However, the industry's movers and shakers will realise "there is a need for bright and talented artistes".

"Talent can be ignored but for so long," said Briggy Benz. "Despite the challenges, me naah mek dem demotivate me from making superb music that people can vibe to, especially the ladies. Look out for my new single on the Our Time riddim coming out soon, a mad ting."

Briggy Benz is commitment to developing his musical career and is still devoted team Red Square.

"A Red Square mi navel string cut, so a loyalty over dishonour. A Red Square me still say nuh matter which part inna di world me deh," he said.
