Calado has 'near sex' experience on stage

Alliance Next Generation artiste Calado got a taste of his own medicine while performing his song, Sex Mi Mind Deh on stage in Canada recently.

The artiste who is currently on a Canadian tour was performing the Cashflow-produced single live on-stage, when a female went on-stage uninvited and attempted to perform oral sex on the artiste. The artiste who also has photographic evidence of his surprise experience, later shared the photo on his Facebook page. According to Calado, it is unusual to see fans reacting to his songs in that manner.

"While singing Sex Mi Mind Deh, di whole place tear down. Out of nowhere this woman came on-stage went on her knees and start pull mi belt, mi haffi sey no not that way ... mi mind blank out completely because if it never blank maybe I would allow her," he laughed.

Calado believes he has developed a loyal fan base in Canada and expressed that he was surprised to see the appreciation that Canadians have for dancehall music. "They call me black Jesus in Canada and I was feeling overzealous and very welcomed to a new world. I was never nervous and it is good to see when I am performing and a fan can run on-stage skating on her knees as I sing," Calado recalled.

"Music is like a spirit that runs through the body, like currents and takes your mind to places at times. Respect and love to my fans out there and it is a great feeling to be making songs and seeing them have such a powerful impact on people," Calado said.

Now enjoying the fruits of international exposure, Calado, who is a protege of Bounty Killer, said that patrons in foreign countries are more interactive with local music than Jamaicans. Calado also said music industry players are more professional internationally.

Professionalism

"The fans appreciate you more overseas, the atmosphere is more professional and fans interact with you more. They are more involved in your performance whether they know your music, name or not. In Jamaica if your song isn't hot and mainstream you will hardly get a reaction from the crowd and if you are not a big artiste in Jamaica the professionalism is not there from both promoters and engineers at stage shows," Calado said.

Calado and fellow Alliance Next Generation artiste Iyara recently performed in Ottawa at places like Wally B nightclub, SVG nightclub, and Club Epiphany, and will be performing at Suite 811 on July 20.

The artistes also made a cameo appearance in Canadian-based rapper Kardinal Official's new music video and are both expected to shoot separate music videos for solo projects while on tour in Canada.
