Sizzling performances on Dancehall Night

No Vybz Kartel, no Mavado on Dancehall Night, no problem, as the 20th staging of Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay showcased an immensely talented group of entertainers who brought their best to the greatest reggae show on earth.

The 'Queen of Dancehall' Lady Saw left many wondering on Thursday night why the organizers took so long to bring back this ace entertainer to the Reggae Sumfest stage as she gave an unforgettable performance that left her fans begging for more.

Lady Saw was honoured in fine style as she was robed, crowned the Queen of the Dancehall, along with receiving a special plaque in recognition for her service to the entertainment business.

Hot performance

Spice gave a hot performance on Dancehall Night and generated quite a stir with her grand entrance on stage that left everyone talking. The fairy-tale carriage that brought her on stage had everyone mystified until they saw Spice appearing from the carriage looking quite like a princess. And she did represent the persona of being the princess of dancehall very well, as her performance can be marked as one of her best to date.

It was no surprise when Beenie Man was assigned the task to close one of Reggae Sumfest's toughest nights of the festival, as only a few entertainers can successfully do just that, but Beenie's way is just special.

Dressed in an all-white three piece suit, his stage presence was unmatched, his delivery hit every note and the appreciation from his fans was shear inspiring. From his huge catalogue of hits, Beenie Man unleashed a superb performance that left fans pleased.

There was, however, a low point at the festival during I-Octane's performance, as several supporters of the deejay lit a huge fire in the crowd that created a brief disruption and forced many patrons to run for safety. Members of the police force were also attacked as they tried to restore calm and order in the area where the fire was started. The incident was short-lived and the show went on safely to see other major acts gracing the stage.

Romain Virgo gave many a surprise on Thursday night as the reggae artiste made his debut performance on Dancehall Night to the delight of his musical fans who warmly received him. Virgo has never performed on a Dancehall Night at Reggae Sumfest, but he showed that no matter which slot he is placed in his musical talent is undeniable and could match any.

Among the highlight performances of Dancehall Night was Baby Cham with his wife O. The duo gave a steamy performance that was well received. Popcaan and Tommy Lee were huge crowd favourites who also delivered well. Bounty Killer, Konshens, Khago and Tifa were also excellent.
