Chin goes positive with Conquering Lion

Producer Paul Chin is on a mission to change the negative perception of Jamaican music through his Chiney K Productions.

"People are saying reggae music not selling but there are great songs out there, they are just not being highlighted," Chin said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.

The lanky producer who splits his time between Kingston and Montreal, Canada says he is determined to permeate the dancehall scene with "quality work".

His latest project, the Conquering Lion riddim which features songs by Lutan Fyah (Ketch A Fyah); Lenn Hammond (Baby Don't Worry); Lady G (Two Can Play); Sanchez (If Something Is Wrong) and Anthony B (Jah Is Love).

Conquering Lion was built by Kirkledove Records and Andre Breault out of Montreal. It was released this week and a pumped-up Chin says he is expecting "big things" from it.

"I honestly like every single track on the project. They are uplifting and I know that once you take a listen, they will grow on you," he said.

Chin got into music after a successful career as a footballer, winning the Manning Cup with Charlie Smith Comprehensive, and the Major League with Olympic Gardens.

His passion for music was strengthened after working as manager for the Stone Love sound system.

"I met (Stone Love selector) Rory in 2005 and he introduced me to Winston 'Wee Pow' Powell (Stone Love founder) who at the time was looking for a manager to help deal with the business side of things," explained Chin.

It was while working with Stone Love that he produced his first riddim, 9-5 with songs by John Holt, Tony Rebel and Bounty Killer. Follow-up projects include the Wake and Gangsta Flex.

Chin has also dabbled in events production. Two of his more popular shows being Tarrus Bash and Rebound.
