Medical ganja named after Bolt

The 30th Olympiad is over, but Jamaican athletic superstar Usain St Leo Bolt has apparently left a lasting impression on even the Orange County marijuana dealers in the United States of America, THE STAR has learnt.

Some of California's medical marijuana dispensaries are selling a strain of weed called 'Usain Lightning Bolt O.G.

'The dealers claim that the new grain of the cannabis is in honour of the living legend.

Information gathered from forbes.com is that Usain Bolt 'smoked' the competition (in London) and now, you can smoke some Usain Bolt.

On the celebrity gossip website tmz.com, it is reported that a well-informed, and prescription-carrying source had confirmed that ever since the Olympics began, multiple weed dispensaries in the Orange  County area were selling the new product.

The report further stated that potheads have a new reason to cheer for Usain Bolt, besides Jamaica's athletic programme. In the article, one pot shop pioneer from California was reported as saying ,"Usain Bolt.O.G" got its name because it's so "fast-hitting".

THE STAR also gathered that the Olympic connection is far from over as sources say that some shops plan to release a new line of weed-filled baked goods inspired by United States judo fighter Nick Delpopolo, who was expelled from the London Games after failing a doping test. He was reported as saying that he had unintentionally ate something before the Games that had been baked with marijuana.

Cause of action

When contacted yesterday, local attorney-at-law Keacha Dixon, from the Law firm Gordon Dixon & Company (Trademark Agents), told THE STAR that Bolt would have a cause of action against these persons if in any way his image was affected. The attorney said, "Absent the acknowledgement of the California Medical Marijuana Dispensaries that this drug was named in honour of Bolt one could bring action against a party that use the name or image of a celebrity without his or her permission under the cause of action of passing-off".

Usain Bolt was criticised in 2009 when in an interview with Germany's Bild newspaper, he reportedly said, "When you're a child in Jamaica, you learn how to roll a joint ... Everyone tried marijuana, including me, but I was really young."

Bolt subsequently issued an official apology for his utterance just days after the interview came out, saying in a statement, "I want to apologise to the Jamaican people if at anytime it may have come
across that all young people roll a joint."
