DownSound Records drops artistes

The online universe was buzzing last week with news that DownSound Records (DSR) had dropped four artistes from its roster. CEO Josef Bogdanovich opened up to The Gleaner about the way forward.

The artistes reportedly dropped by the company are Motion, Lolly, G Warren and Tempricher.

According to Bogdanovich, DSR constantly examines development and cost associated with each artiste in an attempt to maximise the company's efficiency. He added that letting one artiste go and keeping another was not as much a reflection on the individual as it was a reflection upon current company needs.

"It is important to understand that artiste development is different with each artiste, because they are individuals and must be considered accordingly. Some develop more quickly than others," Bogdanovich said.

"What has happened at DownSound is that we have made some changes going into the 4th quarter of 2012, bracing for a very strong year-end push," he added.

DSR chart-toppers

DSR is currently making strides in the entertainment industry with chart-toppers Khago and Nature.
According to Bogdanovich, Khago has been busy both locally and abroad and is looking forward to a European tour in development for January or February 2013.

Bogdanovich also revealed that Nature has been booked for some big Christmas shows in Jamaica with GT Taylor's Christmas Extravaganza and Sting and is also looking forward to a 30-city European tour, which is now in development. There are also a few holiday shows that have been booked in New York.

Nature has recently recorded two singles in New York City with multiple Grammy award winner Gordon 'Commissioner' Williams, and is looking to record more this month, Bogdanovich said.
Two other artistes signed to the company - Specialist and newcomer Ishawna - recently released a new single Do For Love which has been garnering impressive airplay.

"We are also developing an action-thriller drama based in Jamaica, and are in discussion with film distribution companies abroad," Bogdanovich told The Gleaner.
