TeFF - Mr. Government [Official Video] [Apr 2012]

[Philadelphia,Pennsylvania - October 29, 2012] With the economic downturn in the standards of living and societies around the world, everyone tries to seek comfort in whatever ways they can. In the music world, artists and lyricists tend to put thoughts to music as a form of release in these strenuous times. One such artist, TeFF, aims his discomfort with this recent state of affairs in his plea titled “Mr Government” in hopes of a change or at least an ear of someone in authority who is willing to help make a difference.

TeFF is an extremely talented and versatile artist and “Mr Government” is proof of such abilities he possesses. Not often someone with such innovation comes along and certainly it is rare that such a person will convey such riveting and straight-forward messages. “Mr. Government” is iconic and heartfelt, especially with the present day police brutality, rape and abuse of children and subsequent rise in taxes and cost of living in Jamaica over the last few months.

TeFF’s goal with this song was to create a timeless song that would speak to the people and for the people at the same time. This was one of the quickest songs that TeFF has ever put together, which he happened to have recorded in one sitting, with no pen or paper. TeFF was able to do this by reflecting on a number of experiences he had with law enforcement agents both in and outside of Jamaica.

Sill healing from the loss of a childhood friend on New Year's eve at the hands of Jamaican police officers a couple of years ago, TeFF makes mention of the senseless loss of human life in the first verse of "Mr. Government". TeFF believes that his friend, who was not guilty of committing any crime whatsoever, did not deserve to die by being shot in the head by a police officer, someone who is supposed to protect and serve the people.

The second verse talks about how TeFF gets stopped by the police EVERY time he is in the country without fail.

“And when I’m stopped by police, they feel the need to always dig down the vehicle and feel the need to flex their authority. It seems as if the government don’t want you to have anything nice, as if only they deserve to live well." said TeFF in a recent interview about his song "Mr. Government".

Grammy award winning Jamaican producer Austin “Kevin” Green from the PayDay Music label produced the track and has high hopes for this TeFF song. The video was shot entirely in Jamaica by TeFF's producer TuchPoint, as well as the editing, and will be premiering on local TV stations soon. “Mr. Government” is a single off TeFF’s last album “We GREAT” which includes other hits like “Boarding Call”, “OverALL”, “Sell Out” and title track “We GREAT”, a tribute to Usain Bolt and the other athletes from the Jamaican Olympic team. The album itself is a salute to the talent and notoriety of Jamaicans everywhere as well as the cries of the people who are suffering from the hard times experienced today.
