No formula to getting Billboard hits

Dancehall producer Elvis Redwood of So Unique records has released his summer rhythm called So Unique. According to the producer who climbed Billboard Charts last year with his Lost Angel rhythm, he wants to add a face to his production.

"I call this rhythm the So Unique rhythm because I want to get out the label name and add a face to the production. People know my hit songs but they don't know who produced it. I have a contingent of hit records but people don't know who it is behind the work," Redwood said.

Elvis Redwood has produced We Love The Vibes by I-Octane as well as Popcaan's Only Man She Want and Love Yu Enuh.

The So Unique rhythm is already receiving rotation on local radio stations and, according to Redwood, the reception has been favourable.

"The response has been great. I have a lot of senior artistes on it as well as some young people from my camp. From time to time, I will do productions featuring only artistes from my camp and sometimes I will do juggling including everybody" he said.

The new rhythm features all the artistes featured on billboard charted Lost Angel rhythm, with the exception of Popcaan who was replaced by I-Octane. Redwood and the former Portmore Empire artiste severed ties earlier this year amid Popcaan's decision not to record on Redwood's Aurora Skies rhythm.

Despite receiving another international attention when the Aurora Skies rhythm was added to BBC's 1xtra playlist earlier this year, Redwood is yet to connect with the billboard charts since 2011. According to the producer, he can produce more international hits; however, the song and the rhythm has to be right.

"I can live up to the success of the Lost Angel rhythm. We Love The Vibes by I-Octane has crossed over in England. I don't know if it is going to be on Billboard but it has crossed over and it has the potential. We will make more international hits but the rhythm and the song have to be right; it can't be one way. There is no formula to make a Billboard record because sometimes you hear some songs that you have to wonder about, but the overseas people know what they want to hear. Once a song has an international sound, it might cross over but there is no set formula to guarantee," Redwood said.
The producer highlighted that songs that have singing hooks are easier to cross over.

"Singing hooks are easier to cross over because when you deejay hardcore it is not as easy to catch, when the phrase of the hook is catchy and has a melody people will catch on to it, and once people start humming the hook you know it has the ability to hit," he said.

So Unique rhythm is already being played on radio stations, it is also available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.

The rhythm features Vybz Kartel, Tommy lee, I-Octane, Gaza Slim, Flames, Black Diamond, Sean Storm, Sheba, among others. So Unique Records recently signed upcoming singer Jordanne Patrice.
