Since the release of Don A Road Don A Jail earlier this year, the life of dancehall artiste Dwayno has never been the same, literally.
The deejay, born Dwayne Forrester, has credited much of his recent success to the incarcerated Vybz Kartel who he hails as 'The planet king'.
The single, according to the St Catherine-based deejay, is a tribute to his mentor but most importantly gave him that elusive music breakthrough; his daily activities have never been the same since.
"The collab opened a whole heap of doors for me. I am countless at the moment. Noticed anyone who collaborated with Vybz Kartel became an instant star, I am just the latest," remarked the grateful deejay.
The song became an instant hit also. Mini-buses, street dances and radio ran with it as if it was the last bit of good news. Questions began to circulate, who is Dwayno? A star was born.
"I have been involved in music long time now. I wrote songs for Voicemail and even Buju Banton but no one heard of me. After the incarceration of Vybz Kartel, I wrote and composed the lyrics as a tribute to one of the greatest lyricist, the rest was history," he said.
Like his mentor, Dwayno assesses himself as a master lyricist. He was, however, trained by the master himself. "Vybz Kartel is the planet king. A walking encyclopaedia," he added.
Nowadays the deejay is capitalising on the fast start he has had. He has created a video, directed by Norman Wallace, for the same single and has also voiced another track titled Bad Inna Bed, which he produced on the Dollar Coin rhythm.
Dwayno is also adamant that he won't lose out on the Don A Road momentum saying: "I must work harder, do research and dedicate more time to my music."
To the fans, Dwayno is promising more hit songs down the road. He's challenging himself to go one better than Don A Road for his next released track, something in which his mentor has managed to achieved effortlessly throughout his career.
"Vybz Kartel always do better than the previous track; my aim is just the same, get better and better," he said.
