The management of rising dancehall artiste Tommy Lee, is refuting claims allegedly made by a US based promoter that he was unable to appear at his show because he had issues with his US work permit, THE WEEKEND STAR understands.
The show which was advertised to feature Tommy Lee took place at a Jamaican spot in Queens, New York last Saturday.
Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that the promoter is blaming the absence of Tommy Lee on visa issues. While on the other hand THE WEEKEND STAR was informed by Tommy Lee's management that no plans were in place to go to the United States this summer.
Bad reputation
Tommy Lee's PR agent Keona Williams expressed, "We have received phone calls from promoters in the US concerned that we have booked shows after we stated he would not be performing in the US this summer ... They told me about the event last Saturday and how upset fans were and the bad reputation it is building."
THE WEEKEND STAR was informed by a source that the show was sold out.
Fans took to the Facebook and Twitter page of the Some Bwoy deejay and expressed disappointment at his absence and questioning if the show was legitimate to begin with.
A fan, Floyd Wilson, corresponded with Tommy Lee via twitter expressing, "pawdie u did in a NY satday?" It went on to state that his name had been mentioned on a flyer for an event as a special guest.
THE WEEKEND STAR tried to get in contact with the promotional team responsible for the event but efforts were futile.
Tommy Lee's manager, Heavy D, said that they were not aware of this event and that since then they have also learnt that he is being advertised for other events, even locally, where he is not booked to perform.
"Anywhere there is a no-show it's a problem on the part of the promoter... Tommy Lee is not a no-show artiste like some other entertainers. Anywhere we have a legitimate show we will be there," he said.
Heavy D also told THE WEEKEND STAR that Tommy Lee has no visa issue.
"We have two shows in Canada next week on August 31 and September 1. We have been to England a few months ago and there were absolutely no issues... We have not made any attempt to obtain as US visa as yet as we are concentrating on the other territories for now," he said.
The artiste has had a busy summer, appearing at some of the main events such as Reggae Sumfest and Dream Live for Negril weekend.
The entertainer's camp also released some new singles which includes 'Uncle Demon', 'Tom and Jerry' and 'Watch Dem'.
