Dexta Daps on a mission

DEXTA Daps sees himself as dancehall's next star. The up-and-coming artiste believes he has the creative edge to move to the next level.

"I know it's a hard industry to break in ... but my versatility and lyrics sets me apart from other artistes," he told Jamaica Observer.

Dexta Daps, whose given name is Louis Grandison, hails from the Seaview Gardens community in St Andrew. The 26-year-old said his early influences in music came from dancehall heavyweights such as Shabba Ranks, Bounty Killa, and Elephant Man - who all came from his community.

"I used to listen their songs and then go deejay them to my friends until I started writing my own songs," he said.

So far, Dexta Daps - one of DASECA Productions' newest finds - has voiced Dem A Say [DASECA Productions]; Surrounded [DASECA Productions]; Save Me Lord [Beat Mania Productions]; Gyal A Mad [Panta Son Productions]; Nuh New Fren [Black Spyda Productions]; and his latest Turn Me On [Studio Vibes Productions].

He is grateful for the support he has received thus far and plans to capitalise on the attention his songs have been receiving.

He said does not believe in limiting himself, so he is currently in New York recording for various producers and doing a few shows, performances.
