Khago takes aim with Pretty Wine

Khago is anticipating success with his latest single Pretty Wine which was released in August on the Chasemillz/Jah Snowcone label.

"My team and I have just completed shooting the video for it. The concept of the video is very different as we had invited dancers from Finland, Italy and Japan to send us their version of the Pretty Wine dance. Then we incorporated them into the video," the singjay told Splash.

Khago recently inked a recording deal with Kingston's Downsound Records which helped break Nanco and Fantan Mojah.

Five years ago, he got his breakthrough with Na Sell Out Mi Fren Dem. He says he is in no rush to release an album.

"An album is not about a compilation of singles that people already know. It is about getting the proper promotion and getting the correct musicians to work on the tracks," he explained. "Nothing happens before its time and, sometimes, its good to take things slowly in order to get it done the right way."

After flirting with hardcore dancehall, he is planning a return to cultural and lovers rock material.

Born Ricardo Gayle, Khago was raised in Manchester. He recalled his rural roots when addressing another aspect of the music business.

"More artistes from the rural parishes are becoming top acts. No longer is dancehall music associated with (just) Kingston," he said.

Khago got his first taste of success in 2006 when he placed third in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's Popular Song Contest with If you Know.

Since then, he has released several tracks like Ca Cool, Tun up Di Ting, Funeral Time and most recently, Missing You and Pushing Me Away.
