More great performances from Digicel Stars

Again it was Sharona Jonas who brought Digicel Stars to a fitting end when it was held at the Courtleigh Auditorium, New Kingston, on Sunday.

In the previous show, Jonas earned a standing ovation when she sang Michael Jackson's Hold Me. For a second week, she seemed to be the person to beat in the competition when she did a rendition of You're Gonna Love Me. Jonas hit all the right notes and had the passion to match.

"Very excellent," said Jamaican Sound mentor Koffy. "That's probably the reason why everybody sees you as a threat."

Her pop mentor Conroy Wilson was also pleased, saying: "You delivered as you always do every week. You are a star."

Earlier, John-Ross Austin was not as impressive as he was last week, with mentors stating that he was off-key. Wilson added that he should have chosen a different song.

Pop's Fallon Phillips seemed as if she was straining in sections. Carlene Davis said she should have lowered her key, while Koffy said the song overpowered her this week. Despite her mishap, Wilson said he was still proud of her.

Improving

Singing a Beres Hammond hit, DSL showed improvement over previous performances. Davis and D-Major were pleased with the performance, but Wilson said, "while DSL is improving, the competition is still bigger than him."

However, Koffy said, "wi nuh care bout wah the man dem think, you perform for the ladies." He said he was particularly impressed with the performance because DSL lost his voice earlier in the day.

The mentors were impressed with Lawayne McLean's performance, as she danced and moved on stage. But D-Major said her ad libs were a bit pitchy.

Closer to the end of the show, Richie Bless brought controversy to the show. The mentors said he brought entertainment value. But not as impressed, Wilson said he "can call names" when his singing and performance improve. The gospel singer responded with lyrics from I-Octane's Badmind Fi Di Year.

The show came to a close with Tifa, who excited the audience when she sang Dash Out and did a little remix with songs like Spell It Out and Matey Wine.
