Sharona Jonas is the first Digicel Star

On one of the most anticipated nights of the local television season, the most watched television show came to an end, and Sharona Jonas walked away as the Digicel Star of 2012.

In what could be deemed a stellar line-up of young talent, the top four contestants, consisting of Lawayne McLean, DSL, Richie Bless and Jonas, did well, holding their own during their individual performances.

It was a dramatic end to a two-hour long season finale with performances from past contestants, including Alwyn Beecher, Fallon Phillips and Golda Watson.

At the beginning of the show, each team, consisting of all group members, displayed to the audience the talent that placed them in the top 16 of the competition.

Admirable performance

Team Jamaican Sound was up first and delivered a commendable rendition of Morgan Heritage's Down By The River.

R&B was up next and they delivered an admirable performance of Caravan of Love.
Up next was Team Pop, and once again they showed why they were front runners in the competition.

With their rendition of Stand Up For Love, Jonas' unmatched vocals once again stood out.

Team Gospel brought the spirit of God into the Courtleigh Auditorium with their song Hallelujah (The Lord God Almighty Reigns).

But before the teams took to the stage, host Terri-Karelle Reid asked the mentors what one moment stood out for them in the competition.

D Major, Team R&B mentor, stated that the camaraderie and the family atmosphere between the contestants stood out in his mind. Conroy Wilson, mentor of Team Pop, said the impact he had on the lives of his team members was a memorable and inspiring lesson to him.

The two-hour show was filled with excitement and anxiety. A number of special guests made appearances at the show, including mentors D Major and Carlene. Both performed a medley of songs which were well received by the audience.

Digicel ambassador I-Octane also delivered a superb set. From beginning to end, audience members were on their feet singing along with the artiste.

With their fans and family waiting with bated breath for the finale, the top four reminded Jamaica why they had made it thus far.

Performing For I Know My Redeemer Lives for the second time in the competition, Lawayne could not hold back the tears, telling the audience between sobs she already felt like a winner.

Well-deserved

After a shaky start in the competition, a now-confident DSL delivered Affairs of the Heart and thanked Jamaica for its support throughout the competition.

Sharona Jonas, who had fans chanting her name from the get-go, did her rendition of Rihanna's Where Have You Been All My Life.

Her vivacious personality shone through her performance and she gained a well-deserved standing ovation for her dancing skills, especially her split which ignited the audience.

Richie Bless also delivered a spirited performance with his medley of gospel songs and told Jamaica he was excited to be in the finale.

When all four contestants were once again called to the stage, audience members waited on the edge of their seats to see if their contestant would walk away with the $1 million prize.

Fourth place went to DSL who walked away with a cash prize of $250,000. Richie Bless walked away with third place and $400,000.

Tensions mounted as Lawayne and Sharona awaited the announcement that would forever change their lives.

Sharona Jonas was left speechless after it was announced she was the winner. Runner up Lawayne McLean, who walked away with $600,000 told the audience she was grateful for its support and that Jonas' victory was well deserved.
