Waggy Ras Productions recording artiste Classical Eska has been
searing the airwaves of Sun City Radio in Portmore, ZIP, HITZ, and IRIE
with a new single called 'Judgement' on the Romance rhythm for the Waggy
Ras label.
The rhythm also features other artistes such as Jah Cure,
Pressure, and several entertainment heavyweights, but surprisingly,
Classical Eska has one of the standout tracks.
"Right now, to the feedback mi a get inna the streets, mi feel
great. Is like words can't explain it. Mi about to feel excited, but mi
don't want it get to mi head, so mi haffi hold mi meditation and just
give Jah thanks say the energy mi put out a manifest itself into
reality," he said, smiling.
A member of the Boboshanti Rastafari order, Classical Eska feels
that he was ordained to be an artiste and to teach spirituality,
upliftment, and self-empowerment to disenfranchised ghetto youths.
"This is my dream; music is my soul. I want to enlighten,
educate, and entertain people. And to how the people dem react to me on
stage shows in my area, mi feel grateful with just the love mi get inna
Portmore and in the garrisons in Kingston. If mi no hold mi composure,
mi will all cry. Yuh know what it is like to fulfil your lifelong
dream?" he said.
Excited
Classical Eska revealed that his family is excited about
the prospects for his career, especially since his success could uplift
not only the minds of the young people he is trying to teach a higher
truth, but also could change the financial circumstances of his family.
Born Tovan Murdock, the artiste grew up in the tough community of
Newlands in Portmore. He attended Greater Portmore High school where he
excelled in sports and represented his school in football at the Colts
and Manning Cup levels.
After graduating, he decided to pursue his avid interest in
music. He rechristened himself Classical Eska, a name that was given to
him by members of his community.
"People inna the village always used to call me Eska, and den
some other people hear mi music and mi style and say mi music
'classical'. So a so the name come about, Classical Eska," he explained.
Critically acclaimed collaboration
Not long afterwards, he met music producer Delon Reid, who voiced a single with him called No Matter Dem that got some airplay on FAME and ZIP. He voiced In Love on the 92 rhythm for music producer 92fs, and also voiced a critically-acclaimed collaboration with Sizzla called Nah Live Up on the Uncle K rhythm and another combination called No War, featuring Chaka Demus.
He began to grow his covenant in 2007 and his songs began to show
greater introspection. "Is just an inborn livity mi have as a yute. Is
not like mi change as an individual, but right then, mi get the
privilege to carry out the image of a Rastafarian because even as a
child, mi have the preaching and self-concept of Rastafari," he said.
He has performed on stage shows such as Island Xplosion, West Kingston Jamboree, and Champions in Action.
"Right now, mi love the direction that my career is heading in
right now. Mi feel great that Waggy Ras tek up mi career and a mek it
happen and is a man I never knew before in life. Is a favour that my
father did for him 20 years ago that he is repaying. So it shows that if
you do good things for
others, Jah will do great things for you," he said.
