BRITISH reggae artiste Scratchylus' latest single Our Story was chosen as one of the songs celebrating Black History Month in the United Kingdom.
Commenting on the song, which stresses black pride, Scratchylus says it was inspired from "not hearing the other side of the story".
According to the London-born singjay, who has roots in St Thomas, he ended up going to the libraries after school and doing his own research with the help of a librarian.
He said Our Story has been in the works for some time.
"It actually came to mind while I was performing as a soldier in the Crimean War in (the play) The Black Heroes Hall of Fame in the UK," he said.
"The song will give a child the confidence to develop researching skills and help to create awareness and confidence, and as a result help free children from insecurities because ignorance breeds fear," he reasoned.
His eight-year-old daughter Empress Reggae also appears on Our Story.
Black History Month is celebrated in October in the United Kingdom.
