The Roosters fraternity of Taylor Hall, University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, is gearing up to host its annual fund-raising event, Joyride. This year's staging takes the shape of an old-school-meets-new-school party.According to co-promoter of Joyride, Sandre, the party promises to provide a full-scale entertainment package.
"It's a high-energy celebration of the high schools that us university students came from. The theme this year (Bad Pickney Sit'n) is about reliving the days of high school when we used to give and get in a lot of trouble," he said. "Everybody knows high-school days were some of the best days for us college students. Joyride presents one night to relive all that, one night to rep your past schools and step like you used to in high school, so this is a rare experience. It's not every day that people are given that chance to travel down memory lane."
Roosters fraternity has sought to outdo other promoters by surpassing the commonplace 2-4-1 entry fee arrangements for females. Instead, women in groups of three will enter the event free of charge until midnight. Other deals that will be extended to patrons include LIME-sponsored giveaways as well as Appleton drink specials.
To attend Joyride, males are expected to pay $350 and single females will be charged $250.
Enigma Photo company, as well as Campus Trendz, will be on hand to capture shots of the creative costumes expected on the night.
To boost the energy on the dance floor, 2012 Dancing Dynamites winners Garrison Youths will make a guest appearance. DJs booked to deliver the musical package include Arif Cooper, The Campus Craze Kaniva, DJ Lav and Afta Shakk.
"We have professional security like you would expect at campus events, and ample parking is available at the location. Detox will be available from Tetley Tea," Sandre concluded.
