With controversy always seeming to surround him, artiste Tommy Lee has made the move to trademark his name – Tommy Lee Sparta.
In an interview with THE WEEKEND STAR, Tommy Lee stated that the move to trademark the name was suggested by his lawyer.
“From day one, mi name so, a Sparta mi come from inna Flankers, so dats how mi get the name. Me get legal advice fi sort out mi name officially, yuh zeet. The whole heap a fraud and impersonation was like a wake-up call,” he said.
Tommy Lee Sparta said the move to trademark his name was also necessary if in the future he wanted to branch out into merchandising.
“You haffi a look pon de future too. When the thing build certain way you waan make sure say a next man can’t come say him own mi name, and then mi can’t sell nothing wid mi name pon it. It also separate me from the Men In Black actor Tommy Lee Jones and the Motley Crew drummer called Tommy Lee, yuh zi mi. So me a set mi thing straight,”he added.
The artiste’s publicist, Keona Williams, told THE WEEKEND STAR that it was important for the artiste to have his own unique mark.
“When people search online, it is important that he has his own unique brand which differentiates him from the other Tommy Lees that are out there,” she added.
“It has nothing to do with the Sparta that Bounty Killer is talking about. It has nothing to do with the movie ’300′, it’s just coincidental,” she emphasised.
Tommy Lee Sparta rose to fame in recent times with songs such as Uncle Demon, Psycho and Some Bwoy (Link Pon Chain).
He has been pegged as the headline act for Sting this year.
