Caribbean stars on show in Brooklyn

SOME of the Caribbean's top stars are down to perform tomorrow at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York in honour of stalwarts of the West Indian community.

Soca stars Machel Montano of Trinidad and Tobago and Alison Hinds of Barbados, will take the stage with dancehall acts Mr Vegas, Cham and Morgan's Heritage, as well as rap icons Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick, both of whom have Caribbean heritage.

Tomorrow's show is Caribbean Night in a series of events at the new venue which recently hosted concerts by hip-hop superstar Jay Z and the legendary Barbara Streisand.

It will honour luminaries including Dr Velma Scantlebury-White, America's first black female transplant surgeon; Dr Una Clarke, former New York City legislator; noted songwriter Irvin Burghie (composed several of Harry Belafonte's songs), Gil and Pat Bailey, Francine Chin, Pat McKay and Clinton Lindsay, Jamaicans who made their mark in New York radio.
