The song was done the night before Usain Bolt ran the 200m at the recently concluded World Athletics Championships in Moscow, Russia on Saturday. The two deejays are members of the JOP group of artistes, which is headed by Aidonia.
"Usain Bolt loves music, Run Road is one of his favourite dancehall songs he always uses the term 'run road' in his conversations and so as a team, we came together and said we should do this tribute for him because he would very much appreciate it, which he did," said Aidonia's publicist, Kaylia Williams.
The boss
Bolt, who won the race in 19.66 seconds in a Jamaican quinella with stablemate Warren Weir, heard the song before the final and was obviously elated about it. In his live television interview a few minutes later, be 'bigged up' the JOP family for the tribute.
Aidonia said he has always been a fan of the 100- and 200-metre record holder. "It was a no-brainer; when we got in studio, there were so many adjectives to describe Usain Bolt. He is the boss of track and field, the most naturally gifted and the greatest the world has ever seen," he shared. "In 2008, I recorded a song called Bolt Action, so is from long time the respect is there. Give thanks that my publicist got the Run Road tribute to him in time before his race and him let the world know that he appreciated it. I aso want to big up all our athletes cause dem mek wi proud as an island. Nuff love goes out."
But Aidonia did not stop there. Last night, his weekly Ladies Night at the Quad was dubbed the World Championships, Bolt Action edition.
For several weeks, Aidonia's Ladies night has been at the Quad and so far, the turnout has been great. According to the Tip Pon Yuh Toe hitmaker, last week was supposed to be the World Championships edition of Ladies Night, but because of the inclement weather, it was postponed.
The edition was eventually tied in with last night's Usain Bolt tribute night. "We will still dedicated it to our athletes who have done us proud but also we will be making a toast to ring in Usain Bolt's birthday at midnight," he said yesterday.
