Dancehall artiste/promoter Chozenn has already started promotions for the Spanish Town Jerk Festival's second anniversary. This staging will also feature performances from some of Jamaica's finest entertainers. To set his plans in motion, Chozenn has collaborated with telecoms giant Digicel and alcoholic brand Rum-Bar Rum.
The 2013 Spanish Town Jerk Festival will be hosted at Spanish Town Prison Oval on National Heroes Day, Monday, October 21. Chozenn says this year promises to be bigger and better.
"I tested the water last year, so this year I know how deep it is. So, this time, it's going to be even bigger and better. As you can see, I have started promotions earlier and that is because I know what I am going into. Therefore, I am laying groundwork for what has the potential to be one of the top jerk festivals in Jamaica," he said.
The 2013 Spanish Town Jerk Festival will start at 11 a.m. and run up to midnight. Chozenn believes the festival will bring the Old Capital to life.
"We are bringing more succulent and tasty food. We have also increased the variety, so patrons will be able to choose from different types of jerk. Also, this festival brings unity and life to the Spanish Town community, as the environment begs you to just frolic and eat some food," he said.
All persons under 18 will receive free admission. The Spanish Town Jerk Festival is being promoted as a family event and the promoter said, despite one of the sponsors being a liquor company, all measures will be put in place to prevent underage drinking. He says non-alcoholic beverages will be available for the children, who will also have their own designated area for entertainment, called the Tru-Juice Kiddies' Village.
As it did during last year's staging, the Kiddies' Village will feature games, clowns and magicians, among other attractions. The village will be open to children for the duration of the festival.
Admission for adults will be $500 and a valid ID must be presented to access alcohol there.
Production for the festival will be executed by Spotlight and Flawless Productions while musical selections will be carried out by Chub Rock Sound, Fire Wayne, DJ Najair, DJ British, and DJ Malik.
