No.5 song on new york top 30 reggae charts
Attorney and reggae artiste Charles 'Advoket' Ganga-Singh's cover of Japanese-Canadian pop artiste Justin Nozuka's After Tonight is presenting stiff competition to other top reggae/dancehall acts on a popular North American chart.
Preliminary results from 37-year-old New York Top 30 Reggae Chart has Advoket's After Tonight on the Gankins Record at number 5. The song, which is on the chart 16 weeks, jumps two places.
Founder of the 37-year-old chart, Clinton Lindsay, confirmed that when the charts are officially presented on his show on Foundation Radio Network this afternoon, the song will be at number 5 position.
Lindsay expressed surprised that a new artiste on an independent label would be competing with established performers on mega labels.
"With the competitions on the chart, it is amazing that he is moving up the ranks so fast. Sean Paul with She Doesn't Mind on Atlantic/VP label has a big budget to promote the song; After Tonight could easily make it to number one if the song had a fraction of the budget that the major labels have," he said. "Right now, it's moving on the quality of the song."
The reggae version of After Tonight has surpassed popular songs from artistes such as Snoop Lion's La la la, Junior Gong's Affairs of the Heart, Freddie McGregor You Won't See Me, and Tarrus Riley's Original Dancehall.
