Rising singjay and Major Links recording artiste Vybrant has recorded a song in tribute to Kayann Lamont whose life was allegedly snuffed out by a policeman's bullet in Yallahs, St Thomas, a few weeks ago. The song is titled 'Strike Again'.
Lamont's death sparked outrage across the nation, especially because she was pregnant.
In a release, Vybrant outlined the reason why he decided to pay tribute to Lamont.
"My purpose in music wouldn't be necessary if I didn't write a song about what happened. Kayann is someone that I knew. We grew up in the same community," said Vybrant.
Vybrant described the friendship he shared with Lamont as a good one. He pointed out that she was an affectionate person.
"Kayann is a girl in her own world. she no really up inna people, no inna the mix-up and them thing deh still. She would always hold a vibe and give you a little smile and go through. She is a person who was always on the move," Vybrant recalled.
Vybrant said the news of Lamont's death hit him like a ton of bricks.
Vybrant pointed out that the incident has had an effect on him. He has serious concerns about the women across the island.
"Just the fact that she is a woman and fi see that happen to a woman, it shows that we are living in troubled times. We fraid fi wi little daughter them wehh a come right now; wi little sister them, wi aunty, wi mother. Wi a fret fi them much less wi sons weh a come right now fi know sehh it ago rougher cause if them ago treat a woman so. Just the fact sehh shi pregnant, it even more serious. we are living inna serious times, perilous times, so wi haffi be more focus and more serious right now, so it really break me down mentally," he said.
He hopes that by putting out the song Strike Again, some spiritual energy, hope and unity will be achieved by those affected by the incident.
