JEMINEYE sees himself as dancehall's next big artiste. The up-and-coming deejay believes he has the uniqueness and the creative edge to move to the next level."My musical formula is so unique and calm, it stands alone like a unicorn's horn. I'm true to myself and not afraid of the mirror that sets me apart from other artistes," he told Jamaica Observer.
Jemineye, whose given name is Jason O. Johnson, hails from May Pen in Clarendon. The 26-year-old said his early influences in music came not from one particular artiste, but from artistes who do postive and uplifting music.
"Music for me is an inborn concept, so growing up seeing other musical talents doing there thing was the blueprint which directed into moulding my own," he said.
Since finishing Top 10 of this year's Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition, Jemineye talent has continued to shine. So far, he has done recordings with Head Concussion Records: Blood of a King and Nuh Eye to Eye; Cydefex Records: Put Dem Out and Don't Despise; Nellz Productions: Live Your Life; and for his latest release Island Yard produced by Ryan Singh for Mobys Records.
He is grateful for the support he has received thus far and plans to capitalise on the attention his songs have been receiving.
"I'm mainly about the gathering and sharing of knowledge both on and off the stage; in and out of the studio and I value my soul," he said.
