Up until 2004, United States-based dancehall artiste Jason Grim
was just
fishing trying to find the right line in music. Fortunately for him, he
met up with his childhood friend Black Mattic later that year and the
rest became history.
The two, both from Jamaica, talked for long about music
before the latter offered him an "opportunity of a lifetime" to sign for
his record company Official Hitz Music Group (OHMG). It was the
revelation Jason Grim had searched for.
The highly driven crossover artiste, born Garfield Grant and
raised in Spanish Town, St Catherine, began to record numerous singles
for the label but it wasn't until 2010 he found his international music
breakthrough featuring on the track Girls Anthem, which is a single off Black Mattic's studio album Hot Grabba.
The song, as well as the video, scored big in several dancehall/reggae
loving countries and brought to Jason Grim a sudden burst of fame and
confidence. After this, Jason Grim went back into the studios and
released songs such as Back It Up and For The People, which is off his upcoming EP On My Way Home set to be released in late 2012.
From a little-known fella running the streets of Spanish Town, St
Catherine, this young star has quickly become a man on a very clear
musical mission. The dynamic lyricist said he has always pictured
himself doing music of the highest level.
"I always envision myself doing something special with my life.
Something that would be both financial and psychological beneficial but
nothing of this magnitude," he said, in reference to his label deal with
OHMG.
The magnitude though is Girls Anthem. Two years after its
release, the song, produced by Tray R, is still being sought after in
places like France, Italy, Germany and China.
"After Girls Anthem Jason Grim's stocks went up. I started
receiving calls from family and friends across the globe and that is
when I know the song had gone viral," he said. The video, which is
directed by Adam Sauermilch in New York, is also a huge success.
For his upcoming On My Way Home EP, Jason Grim said fans
can expect much of the same from him. He also said that he has admired
the way that his boss, mentor and friend Black Mattic has transcended
from being an up-and-coming artiste to an almost ready-made product in
the music industry.
"The EP is going to be fantastic. I take pride in all that I do
and it always reflects in my work. Being around Black Mattic is a
phenomenal experience. We grew up together and it really inspires me to
see the musical transition that he has made so far," he said.
Black Mattic is known for songs such as Superstar, Warn Dem and Wine And Bubble.
