GREAT performances were on show at the fourth staging of Mahima Hope 4 Hope Concert held at Hope Garden in St Andrew on Sunday. The concert, started by the late Monique Mahima Geourzoung in aid of the Hope Institute to promote cancer awareness, was intitially set for October 28 but was postponed due to the inclement weather.The show had testimonials from people living with and overcoming cancer.
A testimonial came from Althea Hamiltion, a support singer for Buju Banton and Tarrus Riley. Hamilton - not actively involved with the music - lives in the United States, where she is being treated for the disease since diagnosed in June. She made an impassionate plea for support for the cause inspired by Mahima as the cost of treatment is extremely challenging.
"It can cost you up to over $200,000 for chemotherapy. It (the Mahima Foundation) really, really, needs help," Hamilton stressed.
Singer Influential declared: "I lost my mother and father to cancer, but I am all over the world carrying on this work," then segued into his song Cancer.
Raging Fyah with lead singer Kumar Bent set the Botanical Garden setting in a fury with Running Away, When I Am Far Away, Behold and Nah Look Back.
The spirited gathering could not get enough of I Wayne's delivery of Book of Life, Bleacher and We Belong Together.
Richie Spice really added to the evening's fare with tracks including We Got to Be Free, Come Again, Earth A Run Red, The World Is In A Circle, and Brown Skin.
Other performances came from Josse Royal, Da'Ville, Charlie Black, Duane Stephenson, the Mighty Diamonds, Alaine - whose Bye Bye to Cancer song resonated with the audience, Jah 9, before Beenie Man put the event marking the end of Cancer Awareness Month in fine style.
