More than 30 years after his death, reggae singer Bob Marley continues to earns millions and has found himself among the 'Top Earning Dead Celebrities'.
In a recent post, the popular Forbes.com has Marley ranked at number five on the list, earning US$17 million last year.
"The reggae
star has become a diversified businessman from beyond the grave. There
is even now a Marley beverage company which sells Marley's Mellow Mood, a
'relaxation' drink. Then there's the House of Marley which sells
headphones, speakers and 'lively up' bags," the website said, in a post
that was published recently.
At that position, Marley only comes behind actress Elizabeth
Taylor, who is at first place with US$210 million; singer Michael
Jackson, who placed second at US$145 million; Elvis Presley at third
with US$55 million; and cartoonist Charles Schulz at US$37 million.
Following Marley, is singer John Lennon whose earnings were at
US$12 million. The top 10 is completed by actress Marilyn Monroe at
US$12 million, scientist Albert Einstein at US$10 million, author
Theodor Geisel at US$9 million and actor Steve McQueen who tied with
actress Bettie Page at US$8 million.
But Marley's presence on the Forbes list is not the only recent merit to his name. In August, the album Legend that was done by Bob Marley and The Wailers in 1984 peaked at number 18, up from number 38, on the Billboard 200 Chart.
