After years of yearning for local success, dancehall artiste
Darrio has finally secured a number-one spot with Gal Siddung, which is a
collaboration with Konshens.
In an interview with THE STAR, Darrio said the
song peaked at number one on Entertainment Report's chart for three
weeks and has been doing well in several countries.
"It's a great feeling. It feels like 55 times better than when I
heard myself on the radio for the first time. No turning back," said
Darrio, who is now being booked by Headline Entertainment.
"For a song to be number one, it has to be popular and being a popular artiste, you get shows and more fans."
He continued: "Mi just a ride that wave deh, but mi caan too stick inna da vane deh 'cause mi haffi show versatility."
On the heels of the recent release of the Gal Siddung video, Darrio says he has also released a music video for Wah Dat. He has also put out other songs like Hurry Up and Go Fi Dem, which is on Blaqk Sheep's '90s Bubbles rhythm.
Having yearned for some amount of success, especially on Jamaican soils, Darrio says he is pleased with the latest developments.
"It's getting there. I am grateful for where I reach so far, but
mi still nuh comfortable, still not complacent. I want Darrio to be a
household name. It's on the road, but it is not there as yet. Mi a chip
in the turbo inna Jamaica ya now," he said, noting that he performed to
an audience of more than 30,000 persons in Uganda in October alongside
Konshens.
Darrio also did shows in Guyana and Curaçao recently and says he has been getting show requests from the United States.
