Ending on a high with intense clashes earlier this year, the 2013
season of Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall is slated to kick off
with its launch next week and auditions later this month.
The fifth season of the show ended in April with major
lyrical clashes between female winner Taliban (now Tally) and
second-place finisher Kayla Di Diva. On the final night of the show, the
noise inside the Chinese Benevolent Association was near deafening when
it was announced that Deep Jahi had won ahead of Big Pop.
Quite a memorable season, but the show's executive producer, Mark
Kenny, was tight-lipped about what is in store for the 2013 season that
will kick off next Saturday when the launch is aired on TVJ at
9:30 p.m.
However, Kenny noted that the launch would include interviews
with him, Sanjay Ramanand and the Magnum and Digicel representatives. He
said the judges would be introduced and there would also be
performances.
But what the executive producer did say was that he was pleased with the growth of the show.
"I am just praying that 2013 will be the same. It's not broken,
so we are not going to fix it and hope that we continue with the success
from last year," he told THE STAR, noting that the show had got bigger and better.
Possibly one of the most watched shows on local TV, Kenny said he
is hoping to see strong talent at the auditions in November and
December.
"I am hoping that people who are talented will come out at the
auditions. If we don't have the talent, we don't have a show. We had
great talent last year and people appreciate them," he said.
